Why it is called Fracastorius
Fracastoro, Girolamo; Italian doctor, astronomer (1483-1553).

How to find it
Wait for the terminator, the line between lunar day and night, to fall near 33° east. Craters throw their longest shadows there, and even modest binoculars will pick this one out.
